Article Syndication Advice
- More is not better. Focus on quality over quantity.
- Hand-submit to the top directories even if you bulk submit to others.
- Maintain normal growth rate on articles. Do one article a day or week, not
dozens at once.
- Vary your anchor text from article to article.
- Don't focus on you in the author block. Focus on your topic and keyword
anchor text.

Writing and Promoting Online Articles
The following article, reprinted with permission of the author, Kathleen
Gage, answers the following question: “I personally don't know anyone who has
gotten increased business from this tactic [writing and distributing articles
online as a way of building an opt-in list] and none of my clients have either.
Who is getting more business from this and what are they doing differently?”
Thank you for your message. The process of article writing and distribution
is a tool for credibility and positioning. There are several elements involved
that determine if you will be successful.
1. How well written is the article and is it specific to a market?
2. Do you have a title that grabs people's attention?
3. Do you have a resource box at the end of the article?
4. Is there a compelling offer you are making in the resource box that would
encourage the reader to visit your website, blog or a landing page?
5. Is your website set up to optimize those people who will visit your
website with a visible opt-in opportunity that is of high value to the visitor?
6. What is your follow up plan to market to the people who visited your site
and opted into your database?
7. Are you creating high value to those who receive messages from you?
8. Are you a resource before you are a vendor?
I often find that when one of these elements is not in place article writing
and distribution can be completely ineffective. I also find that people are
impatient and don't put effective systems in place, nor do they view the process
in the long term of building their business and increasing their revenues.
I have made money from article distribution in that it is a part of my
overall marketing strategy. I do not expect to necessarily make money simply
because I have posted an article. It is in the building of an opt-in database
and creating ongoing value for the reader that some readers turn into buyers.
As someone who makes a very good living from the Internet, I can vouch for
the effectiveness of this strategy. Many of my associates who also make their
income directly from the Internet use this method because it is in fact very
effective.
Making money on the Internet can be like baking a cake. If you don't have all
the right ingredients in the correct order you could have a total flop on your
hands. On the other hand, when your systems are in place you can be extremely
successful and have a very tasty outcome.
Does article writing and distribution work? Yes. However, it should be a part
of an overall marketing strategy and will be most effective when viewed this way.
Get More Website Traffic: How to Get More Prospects
Guaranteed When You Write Articles
by Eric Gruber
Want to get more website traffic and more prospects now?
When you write articles, you will attract more attention and get more website
traffic, online publicity and profits.
BUT, if you want to write articles that get read and keep your audience
coming back for more, you must follow my basic rules of writing for an online
audience. If you are used to writing articles for print publications, be sure to
read these rules. The online consumer is different than the print consumer.
7 Article Writing Tips to Ensure Your Targeted Audience Reads What You
Write & Buys What You Are Selling:
1. Use conversational copy. Talk to your readers. Use words that people
know. Absolutely, do not use jargon. It is boring. You will lose your audience's
attention immediately. So, use words that people are familiar with and can
connect to. Write like you talk and let your personality and experience shine
through. You will make a better connection with your readers.
2.Go active. Words have power. Find specific active verbs to paint
your copy. This will make your article exciting and lively. Action verbs are
more engaging and will move the reader along. And, by using action verbs, you
will automatically reduce the number of words it will take to get your message
across. For example, "John loves Mary" is stronger than "Mary is loved by John."
3. Make your copy benefit oriented. Honestly, your readers don't care
how many awards you have won. They don't care how many degrees you have or how
many books you have written. All they care about is how you can help them solve
their problems. So include a strong benefit in your article title. Include
benefits in your article. And add benefits to your About the Author section.
4. Connect with your readers' emotions. We all want to feel smarter,
richer, happier and thinner. Use these emotions to connect with your reader. For
example, “Do you feel paralyzed every time you have to go shopping? Do you hate
trying on clothes? Does stepping in front of that three way mirror strike fear
inside you? Here are my 7 top tips to help you lose weight now...”
5. Keep sentences and paragraphs short. When your readers see articles
with long sentences, long paragraphs and no bullet points or sub-headings, they
will automatically skip that article. Here's why:
- Large chunks of information scare them.
- It overwhelms them.
- It takes too much time and effort to read that article.
And that's the psychology of most readers online. So make your sentences and
paragraphs short. If your sentences are longer than 20 words, cut them up into
two sentences. You can also add lists and bullet points. And, use subheadings
that will attract readers when they scan articles, just like I have done with
this article.
6. Front-load your point. When you make readers wade through paragraph
after paragraph of unrelated anecdotes before you get to your point, you've lost
your audience's attention. Yes, Mark Twain pulled that stunt all the time. But,
your name is not Mark Twain. You want to tease your readers with bits of
information they need to know. This way they'll stick around to the end. They'll
then want to click on the link in your About the Author section and buy your
products or services.
7. Simplify. Worried you're not using the right words? Use simpler
words. Worried that your sentences are not clear? Make simpler sentences.
Worried that people won't see your point? Make your point simpler. Make things
simpler and your writing problems will vanish. That's why every newspaper in the
world is written so a sixth grader can understand.
I'm not telling you to boil everything down to see Spot run simplicity. But,
if you can't make people understand what you write, it's not because the world
is filled with morons. It's because your messages are not clear.

Top 7 Tips to Help You Become a Thought Leader Just By
Writing and Submitting Articles Online
by Eric Gruber
1. Write articles on a consistent basis. To be a thought leader - you
need to consistently articulate and convey insightful information that listeners
and readers value. This means, you should be writing articles - if not on a
daily basis - then a weekly basis. These articles should be used for article
submission. They should be on your blog. They should put into an auto-responder
series. And, they should be turned into products.
2. Give away your best tips and advice. Truly insightful information
is a rare commodity. So, if you reveal some of your best secrets that no one
else is sharing, you will automatically become a "thought leader." Plus, if the
information you're sharing is hot, prospects will think, "Wow! If he's giving
away this information for free - I wonder what I will learn if I get his
products or consulting services!" They'll be drooling to get onto your list,
learn more about you and your offerings - and most importantly - buy from you.
So, if you want to be a thought leader is then you have to be eager to give
information away.
3. Be motivated by generosity, not self-interest. People are more
likely to follow altruists - and they instinctively know the difference. Don't
ruin your article marketing efforts by writing an amazing article - and then try
to sell them in the bio box.
Earn your prospect's respect first by telling them how you can help them -
and then invite them to get a free special report or other call-to-action that
reinforces the fact that you are a thought leader. Then focus on selling them.
4. Be different. If you are writing the same thing as everyone else,
just using different words - how does this make you the expert? It doesn't!
Build a foundation of expertise. Quantify you experience. Record what you
currently know about your industry that others in your industry may not know.
Imagine that you're a mentor writing a long letter to a protégé. Focus on
uncommon expertise and wisdom.
5. Use proven article templates that will help you write articles and
content that prove you are a "thought leader." For example, a case study article
template will help you write an article that shows prospect that you are the
expert - and that have you gotten desired results. An example is my article,
"How to Promote Your Book to the Top of the New York Times Best Sellers List."
6. Submit your articles to the top websites, ezines and blogs! Most
people focus their article marketing efforts on sites like EzineArticles.com.
Submitting your articles to article directories like EzineArticles.com is good
for building links and improving your search engine optimization. But it sucks
at helping you become a "thought leader!" Anyone can get published on article
directories (including kids) as long as you follow their editorial guidelines.
This doesn't make you stand out at the expert, does it? Get your articles
published on top, credible websites. For example, my articles can be found on
sites like About.com, SiteProNews.com, MarketingProfs.com and hundreds more.
7. Turn your articles into videos and submit them to the top video
sites like YouTube and Viddler. As a thought leader, you want to get your
message out to as many people as possible in as many formats as possible.
If you follow my advice, you will become a thought leader and make more money
online.
